Follow A Newbie Friday (7)

The school holidays have passed in a blur.  My husband had time off so we were able to spend time as a family, and the Monster had his ASD assessment (which I’m about to shoot off to get the feedback for so I’m going to keep this short and sweet today).  It’s been so good not to have to charge about doing nursery runs, though work has been quiet.

I did manage to squeeze in some time to tinker with my blog.  I can’t make it look the way I want it to look.  In my head I know what I’m looking for but I can’t find a template that does what I want it to do, unless I’m willing to pay for it (which I’m not) so it’s current look is a work in progress.  I was impressed with myself for remembering HOW to tinker with it, so that’s a start!

That’s the thing about being a Newbie – you see some brilliant blogs out there that are laid out just as you want them but you either feel to self conscious to ask how it’s done, or you just feel like you’ve been pipped to the post and that copying the look for your blog just ends up looking naff.  If anyone has any suggestions then I’m all ears!

In the spirit of Newbies helping each other, I’ve been posting a selection of newbie bloggers here.  Some may be blogs that are a several months old or that you’re familiar with but they’re great and they would have great advice and tips for you if you feel you need it, and some are brand spanking new and need a wee leg up.  The key is to join in – click the links, read the blogs (leave them a wee comment – you know how good you feel when someone actually comments on something you’ve worked hard to write), and maybe even write your own Follow a Newbie post.  You don’t have to write it on a Friday.  That was only because I decided to do it on a Friday when I saw all the Twitter #FF tags.  There’s a wee linky list at the bottom of the post and it’s always open all week for you to join in.  Mummy’s Cheeky Monkey has often joined in and so if you hop over there you’ll get even more great new reads.

Don’t forget, if you’re included or if you write your own version you can add this badge to your post/blog.  If you’re not sure how, these instructions might help.

This week’s newbies:

Vintuous – a blog on life, literature, craft and being a mum.  It’s a real newbie, but I really liked the appearance of her blog.  (Maybe she will be my teacher!)  In this post she talks about reflections, and looking for the positive persepective on life’s sometimes negative turn of events.  I really hope her friend’s family manage to get their silver lining – I couldn’t imagine dealing with anything like that! @vintuous

Stiletto’s on the School Run – another attractive blog (what’s happened?!  Have I missed a tutorial!?) that has had me in stitches!  I hate Jeremy Kyle with a passion and refuse to watch it, but after reading this maybe I’ll rethink that position… @MamaStiletto (I’m glad to see lots of other people giggling at this post too!)

The Ramblings of a Formerly Rock and Roll Mum – this newbie has some interesting crafty suggestions. @sonyacisco

And I’m afraid that’s all I’ve got time for this week!

Enjoy!

Hi, thanks for all your great suggestions of blogs to follow, I’ve really enjoyed reading them (wordpress’s suggestions are always tedious!)
I have nominated you for a Sunshine Blogger award, if you click the link above it will take you to the post. It is a good way of sharing good blogs with other people.
Hope your ASD feedback was constructive (?)
    Best wishes Kelly

    • Thank you! I hope you’ve found some new blogs to follow. And thanks for the award – it’s very kind of you. I’ll be sure to write my own, just as soon as I get two minutes together to myself… As for the ASD feedback, that’s the subject of a whole other blog post, just waiting to be written.

  2. Thank you for the tag! My blog is only 3 weeks old so its lovely to see someone other than my mum has read it! Already know and love stilettos on the school run blog, off for a look at Vintuous now!

    • It’s no bother! I hope you found some new blogs to read through this and earlier Follow a Newbie posts. I like to include an eclectic range of newbies to appeal to lots of readers – most of them are parent bloggers though.
